Overview
Environmental Clearance (EC) is a statutory approval required under the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification, 2006 for specified development projects. It assesses the potential environmental impacts of a proposed project and ensures that appropriate mitigation measures are incorporated before construction or operation begins. Depending on the project category, EC is granted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) based on the recommendations of the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC), or by the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) based on the recommendations of the State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC).
